Step-By-Step Directions

1
Poke a Pumpkin Step 1

Grab a rectangular box (this one is 22” x 16” x 8”) and tape it closed. On the bottom of the box, measure holes for cups spaced evenly apart. Trace circles slightly smaller than the diameter of the top of the cup, about 3 ½ inches wide.

2
Poke a Pumpkin Step 2

Cut out the holes using a utility knife or craft knife. (These don’t need to be perfect — you’ll cover up any flaws!)

3
Poke a Pumpkin Step 3

Paint your box black on all sides and allow it to dry.

4
Poke a Pumpkin Step 4

Meanwhile, cut square pieces of tissue paper to cover the cups. Using this printable Pumpkin Face Stencil and a black marker, trace the faces onto the paper.

5
Poke a Pumpkin Step 5

Fill each cup with candy and/or prizes and wrap the tissue paper around the top. Secure with a rubber band.

6
Poke a Pumpkin Step 6

Put each cup into the hole, tucking in the excess tissue paper. Add a stem and vine accents above each pumpkin using green paint.

There are endless options for what you put inside your pumpkins.

  • Toss in a few prizes like spider rings, witch’s fingers or vampire fangs.
  • Put the “trick” in trick-or-treat with some gag gifts like a whoopee cushion or a pair of Halloween socks!
  • Get your guests to go for a grand prize by including a pumpkin filled to the top with candy or a special token to trade in for a bigger prize.
